Hi. Ok - since you've asked. Here's the LONG answer. So you can read it before the summer I hope. Some people can't read more than 5 rows. I knew few here. So it's not for them.
Thanks for the support man, and comment about the maps. Well I don't think any of HQ maps are "too shiny" but some have high contrast - I agree it can me uncomfortable in some situations. It's like with maps in some new games do (even Crysis 3 had some of it) or reality does.
Yes of course you can't get low settings on some explorationa and HQ IA maps which were prepared for HQ. Sorry It has to stay this way on some maps. I have already received hate because of that 2 years ago - not nice suggestions like you're giving - but half of my maps simply doesn't make sense on low shaders. Sorry for that. It's 2016. Low settings (which look awful) were prepared by Crytek in 2005/2006!!! when they were preparing the engine and in 2007 when they have released the game. 10 years man! For games and PCs it's like a century!
The idea was that I always wanted to show on some maps how beautiful old CryENGINE 2 still is, comparing to most of new games. This was the MAIN goal of some of HQ maps I made. So this is why they work the way they do.
BUT - I make maps optimized for fighting, hight FPS and for low settings also - which can be played on low and at the same time look "almost" as good as High settings (it requires some time messing with TOD and settings but sometimes looks nice). BUT still half of HQ maps are a kind of promo for Crysis MP as "new" kind of game (playable even in 20256) so they can't be played on low. It's 2016 already man. Sorry about that. You can kill me - I just can't change it and start showing Crysis as "old" "low designed" game. It will stay this way for some maps. I want to add LOW option to 2-3 of PS fighting maps like ("Plantation Town" and "Shore Hotels" for example) soon. Never for HQ IA maps and never for big exploration maps though - which supposed to look realistic (was the reason to make them). Low shaders in CryENGINE doesn't look realistic at all. Sorry. I also hate that some people can't play some maps with nice FPS but being a player in 2016 means thinking about minimum PC for players. Used ones are not expensive at all and can manage a lot.
You are right making maps takes a lot of time. I was counting hours a bit. With such a big maps as "Parkour City" or "Steel Mill Open" it all took me at least like 3.000-4.000 hours for last 5 years. Just for 20 maps, skins and mods for those maps. It's just crazy and stupid in a way. This is why I'm done with it and moving to work on other things this year.
No. I have never worked in Crytek. Don't know anybody from there. I'd like to know Cevat - he is a nice guy. But the company sucks nowadays. A while a go they didn't even have money to pay salary, couldn't pay employees just because of bad decisions and money greed. Working there for money would be very risky. But the time Crysis 1 was being created 2005-2006 - yes that was amazing time to have opportunity to work with Yerli brothers. I would like to be part of the team while creating such an amazing game as Crysis was (and still is). Unfortunately I wasn't even a gamer or even player that time (had many years break) so... I wasn't interesting in the subject that time.
The problem is Crytek nowadays are not making good games anymore (only for consoles - which looks stupid). I wouldn't like to work on new projects there. For me it's better to make maps and mods for free in old Sandbox. But maybe you can find the way to work with them somehow. Right now they are working on virtual relity things. Real things. This is cool but I'm not sure it's gonna end up well. I hope I'm wrong. Of course I will try they new products as soon as I get some VR Headset. But then again. I can't forgive them leaveing Crysis 1 MP. Would be great to see them developing this one (new objects, well designed vehicles, animations, parkour stuff in Crysis 1 style). But I guess we have to do it all now. I'm almost done with my stuff. Need few years of break in making maps. I just need to release 2 big ones soon and retire.
In my plans I have working on some 100% independent MP game in Unity or Unreal Engine (based on ideas from some of my maps and other games). But I have not much time during the week so probably will die before I manage to finish something for real. This is why at least Crysis MP open, parkour maps are my goal working along my "Maps Explorer" simple mod. Thanks for the support on this.
I wish you good luck. I hope you're gonna get some nice PC soon. I have 2 another PCs that I've bought as used ones for around 100$ - 150$ and both those "weak" ones can play all HQ maps with at least 35 FPS on hardest points of map (on my main PC 50-60 FPS there). So you really don't need very expensive PC to play HQ Crysis maps. You just can't use office PC for it like some are trying to do. I hope you don't. It's 2016. I had only office PC myself - till 2009/2010 so I know how it is. But this is also the reason I wasn't even trying to play ANY games (even CS or Pacman) for 10 years before Crysis and before buying some minimum GPU designed for games.
I Hope you are going to get job at Crytek somehow in the future man. It's possible if you really want it and if you have skills that they need. I hope they are going to create something really good soon. Almost 10 years since Crysis 1. Time for another revolution by Crytek.
See you and have fun.
