Hm,
against campers you don't usually use radar, because they will be out of your detection range, especially on Mesa.
Against campers you usually use binoculars + headphones, you scan the mountains and listen to the cloak mode hum. And binoculars are standard spawn equipment.
On my server, i have solved gauss-camping by reducing damage with distance. So if you shoot from point blank range, it will still kill by 1 hit, but if you shoot from far mountain, you will survive 1-2 hits. However i have never got any feedback on it, so i have no idea, if it was a good solution.
Anyway i somewhat agree with Freebo, radar destroys every suprise and game variability. Playing a game, where you always know where are all enemies, is kinda boring. That's why i often don't use it, even if it's available.
Of course old school elitists will disagree, because they only want to measure their aim+movement skills, and everything else is irrelevant.
So it's all about point of view and making compromises. You can't make everyone happy, the server will ALWAYS be set up, so that it makes one part happy and other part angry or vice versa.
From purely admin point of view: Judging by how the player count looks now and how it looked before, current server settings is better.
