How to setup servers to make people happy??

    Hi all. Lately i've been receiving lot of complaints about how the current multiplayer and servers look like. I would like to have a few words about it, and hopefully together we will come up with a solution good for everyone. Last few months it's been mainly !HS Alien Invasion, where the game was going on and where the players were concentrated. Yet, where i came there and asked players, i found out, 80% hated aliens. How is this possible??? Majority hates aliens but they always connect to alien server?? The answer is, it is because of the 20% who joined first. The rest just saw few players and rather joined them in a hated server then going to empty server and wait few minutes for the rest. It is important to realize here, that which server is played that day is determined mostly by where go the FIRST 1-3 players, not which server is most liked by most of players. And now the problem here is, that the players who are not affraid of connecting to an empty server and be first (for example misterSD), preffer different servers than the majority. Of course the simpliest solution would be, if all of you simply joined that server which you like and waited few minutes for the others, instead of joining the other 4 players in a server that you hate. But then i hear responses like "so i'm supposed to go to an empty server?" (Yes you are btw, server is always empty before somebody connects first, why not you, the others are waiting for it). So, this needs a better solution. But i have absolutely no idea. Obviously, if i remove aliens, it is not alien server anymore, and it is just a copy of another Mesa server. If i shut down the alien server completely, and try to "force" the players to somewhere else, it is VERY possible, that then those players who always connect first will then become bored and not connect anymore. Then you will have no "shitty server and shitty players ruining multiplayer" but also no server with ANY players. And with your dislike to enter empty server, game will die. If i enable !antialien command making you imune against aliens, it is neither fair for those who don't use it, nor it makes any sense. It is like 2 groups of players playing 2 different games in 1 place. So making compromise by running multiple different servers, from which everyone can choose, doesn't work. Making compromise by having 2 different rules in 1 server is complete nonsense. Do you see any better solution? Please write it.

    Thanks for having created this thread. I think the best solution come from removing the actual HS servers system and remake those who will stay online. But all that idea only stands on technical remaking of the server, like changing how they work to make it best as a general purpose server, and to make them more close to the old HS servers systems : basic PS that was brought with original MP and that all players currently know, with added features like alien invasion which could happen only temporarily to satisfy players who like it. Of course it's just basic idea there, but i think this could be the best way of operating on HS servers to make players happy. I think review the CryFire SSM would be also good (i say it personnaly). And then for the IA servers (Fun & Relax , explore, madness , duel, programing etc) i think it would be good to remake all that on an unique IA server that would purpose some features of these servers at all, but most of all, based on just original IA game rules, it's what the players like the best (for sure i mean original maps of the game, original rules). That could be good for the moment. Well I don't bring more details here, we could speak about it later. Thanks for reading :)

    Hi youda. I'm agree with golden_elite13, I think that two IA server will be good for all; one standard IA, the second with explore, madness, duel, programing etc... About PS: 80% of us don't like aliens, gauss and vtols at all but they are a part of crysis. Prices should be by default and only a map is boring. So i think we need two PS servers, one only mesa like what's already there (with vtols prices at least of 5000 pp and few reward when u kill aliens) and one with all normal maps and no aliens with 120 mins per map.

    Really good question. The problem with the current system is : there is servers empty all the time. Like Golden_Elite13 and GiovanniS said, I think we can set a standart IA hotspot server and 2 PS server (alien server like we know and a standart PS hotspot), the !HS ia and the !HS ps with only classics maps (steelmill, outpost ect .... for the IA, refinery, beach and shore for the second, (for mesa don't think if it is nessesary because of alien server with full mesa^^)) and allow the !vote map for !HS ia and !HS ps if players need to play on a custom map.

    Well I agree with you, except for two things , that are the most important to me: First if you want to keep the current alien server and add a second PS server, the current problem could stay alive : if one of the two servers is more focused by players, the second one could be forgotten, and a part of players could be unhappy, it's why i think it should be better to concat the two gameplays in one server , see how I would see it : 1 Global PS Server with maps : - Mesa (180/240min or unlimited, with alien invasion event happening 2 times on a random moment and during ~20 min, can be disabled by voting before it comes) - Beach (120 min, standard rules, no aliens) - Refinery (90/120 min, standard rules) That should be all for the PS server. and I think it could be enough balanced For the IA server : - Steel mill (60min) - Quarry (60min) - Outpost (45min) - Poolday v2 (45min) - (Armada) And maybe, I could imagine the special Saturday event as that, for players who like some custom maps : - Refinery light - (Hawaii) - (Pure for WJ) - (aim map) - (dsg1 aim) - (and anything else..) So , only two HS servers would be online , and it would be really enough for the large gameplay it could purpose. And at least, reducing the amount of servers in the list could give more liberty to private servers to open a special event sometimes without being totally ignored xD

    @golden_elite: Your basic idea is great, but you did't explain, how do you imagine a "general purpose" server. There are many questions to solve. What to do with grenade launcher, what with incendiary ammo, what with claymore, AV mine and C4, normal VTOLs, special vehicles, spawn equipment, speed mode effectivity and energy drain, money income, chat commands, .... Each of those has impact on the gameplay style and decide about how much it will be liked by different groups of players. You must construct a server, that will not make the majority extremely angry and will be attractive enough so that someone always joins it first, when it's empty. "it's what the players like the best" Do you actually know it or just think it? Did you talk to some players who told you this, or you generalize your personal opinion on everyone? @GiovanniS: "So i think we need two PS servers, one only mesa like what's already there (with vtols prices at least of 5000 pp and few reward when u kill aliens) and one with all normal maps and no aliens with 120 mins per map." This doesn't solve the problem, that the first players always connects to the alien server and the rest only joins them and everything else is forgotten and empty.     @Youda Thank you for replying. Well yeah, i didn't entered in details here, i just explained my basic idea. In general purpose i mean, just set the basic rules of the standard PS of this game. And yeah, i understand that it would create some conflicts with grenade launcher, incendiary ammo, claymores etc... Thing is i think we cannot fully delete them, it's part of the game. I have my little idea for that : We should set a dynamic rule for enabling/disabling this items : You could create a plugin in CryFire that should check the frequency of usage of any item, and detect if this one is normally used or "overused". Well if in 5 minutes of game, a player has killed 3 people with claymore, we know this will create conflicts between players, and then, either we forbide the item for this player, or we trigger a vote topic in chat to disable it or don't. I think it would be enough dynamic and balanced to allow players to use some "cheaty" items, but without abusing. However, i know some players could trick that if they know the limit of usage, it's what i think we should, in addition to this, trigger a chat vote the second time a player kills someone with c4/claymore etc... I think that should be good to balance the game. And after all, continue to allow the !vote block to players if the logic of my idea is not enough to bury unfair playing :) And to reply to this : ""it's what the players like the best" Do you actually know it or just think it?" - Well, i said it based on my own case, sometimes i start my steelmill/quarry server, too many players (~10) join for my little home connection xDD you will say okay, it's because i'm on my own server so it triggers others to join :D but you can compare to other servers like, the everybody-known Forsaken server (both IA and PS) that are quite never joined by any player, even if forsaken stays there 24/7.. and when some players come on mine, some of them often say that the server/atmosphere remembers them the old times of crysis MP.. and i think it means that the original maps steelmill/quarry/outpost(/armada) still are the best IA maps the player love. Well maybe my analyze if false, but tell me what you think there. Thank you for reading :) Endyx

    And to add some details of your question i forgot to answer, the basic equipment that should be good is the standard equipment we already see on most of players: fy71, lamrifle, reflex, (silencer) . But this detail is not a big problem on servers. For PP, you could maybe do as it was on old HS servers: basic PP income +100 for each grade, or if you don't want, just keep the default PP income. For prices, i think you should also include there again a "dynamic operating" on them, depending on how players are using an item or vehicle. Like for example: vtol starts to 800, and increase only for you if you kill some players with, in a too high time lapse. It's a basic idea again, but you understood what i meant by that. The speed mode effectivity should be a bit higher to me, the default one is too slow , but well there it's jut my own opinion :) And for chat commands, well i don't remember the full list of chat commands on CryFire server, this one is soo big xDD but we could speak about that (and more technical details) in private messages if you want :) Thank you =)

    config:

    - damage of all explosives (except AV mine) and rocket launcher = 50% of default - prices = default - money income = default - vehicles = default, minimum of additional custom vehicles, no added vehicles on IA maps - suit modes (speed, energy drain, ...) = default - spawn equipment = anything except rocket launcher, gauss, nades, clays and C4 - no chat commands like !plantnuke, !airstrike, teleporting, buying stuff anywhere, superhero, ... - no "brain" for server (no autobalance and no autoAFK) - no !taxi command on IA maps - no premium commands - no weapon/vehicle/free-hour "parties" - no fragile players/vehicles freezed by MOAR - it should work as stun only (this is not possible probably) - no "funny names" for Nomads - no disabled weapons

    another ideas:

    - configurable spawn equipment (chat command) - different spawn equipment on some maps - different spawn equipment for each rank (PS only) - less physical damage from enemy vehicles while moving (it's not good when every little touch of moving vehicle kills you) - day/night cycle on some maps (not sure if it works without problems on DX9 servers) - smaller damage area of nuclear explosions (especially TAC Tank) - events with custom and standard maps on saturdays :)

    about servers:

    - one server for big PS maps (combined with Alien Mesa?), it should change map to some standard when empty - one server for small PS and IA maps, it should change map to some standard when empty - few highly specialized servers (duels, Freebo's mods, no-kill/exploration, Pure) - private servers (they are required for stability - Windows Update is still our #1 enemy :D) The simplest solution is usually the best. :) By the way, this is just for inspiration. I think no big changes are needed. It's probably not possible to make everyone happy... :)
